Welcome to

Button & Bramble

Somewhere between a cup of coffee and "just one more project", my little business was born.

Who and what is Button & Bramble?

A collage featuring two photos and a note. The first photo shows a woman with glasses behind a table with handmade items and fabric, smiling at the camera. The second photo shows a woman with blonde curly hair wearing a floral dress and red cardigan, standing outdoors near a white picket fence. The note introduces Margo from Button & Bramble, who makes her own clothes and runs a small business.

I learnt to sew by myself in 2024, motivated to make my own clothing.

The high street didn't inspire me one bit - the clothes I wanted to wear I could never find, so I thought: right, I'll make it myself, then.

So off I went to good ol’ Etsy to buy myself some patterns. It took some figuring out, plenty of referencing the instructions and YouTube videos, but in the end I managed to make my first dress. It was made out of some old bedsheets that I loved the pattern of; I mean, why not? It was all practice, and the fabric was good and decent quality.

After making a garment and usually overbuying fabric, I couldn't justify throwing away my scraps.

They were typically pieces too small to make another garment out of, but far too big for me to consider just binning

So in came my newfound love of sewing accessories…

All it took was a friend to ask about what my current sewing project was.

At the time I was working on making a little washbag to use up some scraps. That then prompted my friend to ask if I could make her one, and that she’d be happy to pay for my time. It became an eye opening moment: not only were my items good enough to sell, they were appreciated and loved for the fact that I had handmade them. It was the tiny push I needed to realise I can and I will. That’s how Button & Bramble went from a seed of an idea to a growing sapling.
